In defense of *your* mom, they were pound signs for much longer than they’ve been hashtags! Regardless, they get pretty annoying on social media when people use them too much. Also annoying is the constant barrage from my TV shows, scrolling across the bottom, telling me if I want the “full experience” I need to log on to their website while I’m viewing so I can do five things at once instead of vegging in front of the tube, relaxing. Fallon’s Hashtag sketch was great and spot on, but that guy nails most things right on the head.
